Atlanta 1996 CC - The Sydney 2000 Presentation

Another one of the main highlights of the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games closing ceremony: the Sydney 2000 presentation.

- First, the Atlanta Olympic Marching Band cleared out from the stadium floor for the participants of the Sydney show.
- Second, a “live feed” from Sydney Harbor (around the area of the Sydney Opera House and the Harbor Bridge) via the Jumbotron screen. Then, the “old Olympic logo” was used here, before it was changed to the one we know now.
- Third, the Australian Aborigines started things off, with the familiar call from their traditional instrument called the “didjeridu.”
- Fourth, the “kangaroos on bicycles” show up. This was criticized somewhat by some as “ridiculous.”
- At this point, I need help to determine how it was supposed to symbolize, with that dance using, as someone has pointed out to me to be cuckatoos.
- Next, the “lifeguards of Bondi Beach” come out, with those specialized Olympic Rings flags.
- Finally, the exterior sail outline of the Sydney Opera House was seen here by inflatable props to end the show.

    This just goes to …
This just goes to show that seven years of (like this handover) and bad press can lead to the greatest Olympics of all time.

I’m looking at you London 2012 moaners, whiners, criers, and general dram queens.

What a handover that was! I had remembered it being better than that. Very cheap, almost like a village fete.

    Sydney has Cathy …
Sydney has Cathy Freeman, who became the first athlete to light the Flame and win a gold medal in the Olympics. As well as Pieter van den Hoogenband dominated the pool. These would be the first of 3 Olympics for Michael Phelps.

    I bet watching …
I bet watching Dominique Moceanu on a bike is cooler. The even would do nothing for national heritage and pride . . . but neither does Dominique. Go Sydney! Go Sudafed!

    from the worst …
from the worst games ever, to the best games ever!
    There´s a reason why the US should never ever host these games again;
    1, theyre stripped of culture!
    2. they treat it like a “Us-Open”..There´s Us, and then there´s us….and did mention Us!
    3. they cavent got a thing to show for!

my god, that was bloody awful! those kangaroos on bikes! HAHA!!! and i thought london’s handover was pretty crap…compared to this it was a work of genius, haha. well, if sydney were able to put this crap on and then host arguably the best games ever, then there’s still hope left for london.

    Worst olympics ever …
Worst olympics ever? The Atlanta olympic athletes gave as much or more than any olympians before or since.

I can guarantee you that none of the 1996 medal winners will say it was the worst olympics ever, but you’re entitled to your opinion.
